Between Two Worlds explores the intersection of surrealism and magical realism, where the natural world meets the otherworldly. Surrealism is distinguished by its focus on a more psychological and subconscious reality, where magical realism depicts illusionary or extraordinary elements as a ordinary part in an otherwise natural setting.
Both of these concepts are visually manifested by using multiple lenses, infrared filters, and long exposures. Images are then transferred directly to the inside of hinged, glass frames using a photo transfer process. The split and layered images represent alternate, parallel, and overlapping realities within a single surreal landscape, creating multiple perspectives simultaneously. Between Two Worlds asks the question: are the distorted perceptions of the landscape magically real or surreal?
